Water sciences and management in Lekhnath, Pokhara

2017

Deep wells provide drinking water to 60% of the population of eastern Pokhara. The continued urbanization of the Pokhara Valley (especially to the east) can be a cause for concern as urbanization can contribute to water stress in local communities due to increased, industry changing water use and tourism and population. Our study will serve to understand the needs and uses of groundwater within eastern Pokhara, and will monitor changes in groundwater levels based on a study conducted by the Lekhnath Small Town Drinking Water and Sanitation User Committee (LSTWSSUC) in the last 10 years. This will be accomplished by way of local interviews and groundwater measurements in deep wells in Lekhnath, in conjunction with the Lekhnath Water Supply Project.
